At the same time, existing operations must do more with less. Fuel, labour, and tyres are the top three operating costs on any mine site. Challenges like premature tyre failure, poor haul road conformance, slope instability, and inefficient blast designs continue to erode margins and compromise safety.
Trimble has responded with the launch of Trimble Mine Insights. It is a cloud-based, AI-powered mining analytics application. Furthermore, it is fully integrated with the Trimble Connect collaboration platform. Designed to close the loop between data collection and operational action, it delivers AI-powered insights across three critical workflows: site analytics, drill and blast, and geotechnical monitoring.
The solution follows a straightforward field-to-office-to-cloud workflow. First, data is collected via drones, laser scanners, GNSS, and machine sensors. It is then processed through Trimble Business Center (Mining Edition) and analysed within Trimble Mine Insights. Finally, results feed directly back into infield action through tools like Trimble Earthworks and Trimble Groundworks.
Trimble Mine Insights is available in three purpose-built packages.
The Site Analytics package gives mine surveyors and operations teams the ability to automatically extract stockpile volumes, manage haul road conformance, and track floor and grade control in real time.
In addition, the Drill and Blast package provides engineers and contractors with intelligent blast design tools, MWD drill data analysis, and post-blast fragmentation assessment. This helps optimise processing times and reduce cost per tonne.
Finally, the Geotech package equips geotechnical engineers and geologists with AI-powered highwall compliance monitoring, slope failure prediction, and automated structural geology detection. As a result, teams can manage risk proactively before issues escalate.
Early feedback from a Southeast Queensland drill and blast customer highlights the platform’s practical value. With just a drone and a basic laptop, operators can achieve survey-grade blast modelling and designs – including previously drilled patterns, thanks to the software’s AI-driven drill hole workflow. The same customer noted the value of the reporting functions for statutory compliance and site history. This future-proofs operations as mines approach the end of pit life.
Overall, across all three packages, the platform delivers measurable outcomes. These include reduced haul truck tyre wear and fuel consumption, improved blast fragmentation and processing efficiency, faster identification of high-risk slope areas, and better collaboration and data traceability across departments.
As an authorised Trimble dealer, UPG can supply and support Trimble Mine Insights for mining and quarrying operations across our region. Whether you’re looking to improve productivity, reduce operating costs, or strengthen site safety, our team can help. We can identify the right package and integrate it with your existing Trimble hardware and software ecosystem. Contact us to find out more or to arrange a demonstration.
