Trimble GEDO Rec

The Trimble GEDO system in combination with the Trimble GEDO Rec field software is a fast, efficient tool to measure, record and document detailed information about existing track.

With Trimble GEDO Rec, you can quickly survey existing lines without the need for alignment data.

Trimble GEDO Rec

SYSTEM FOR TRACK DOCUMENTATION

KEY BENEFITS

In a single operation the Trimble GEDO Rec captures the 3D coordinate position of the track, together with gauge and can’t. The information can be used for GIS, redesign and quality control.

  • Simple, self-contained trolley captures track position, gauge and cant in a single operation.

  • Measure long portions of track without disruption to normal rail traffic.

  • Optical or GNSS positioning ensures confidence in location and track conditions.

  • Fast operation reduces costs and crew size. Capture detailed information on up to 3,000 meters of track in one hour using GNSS, and more than 1,000 meters per hour with total stations.

  • Optimise field work by merging results from multiple surveys.

  • Export results to GIS and rail design software, and compare existing conditions to design alignment.

Trimble GEDO CE 2.0

The cornerstone of Trimble’s modular track measurement systems is their GEDO CE 2.0 trolley, designed for maximum efficiency and adaptability.

This versatile unit can function independently or integrate with Trimble’s geodetic instruments and additional sensors. Its lightweight construction enables single-person operation, while its adjustable design accommodates various track gauges.

The trolley’s compliance with DIN EN 13977 standards has secured its approval for use on DB AG and other European railway networks.

For specialised applications, Trimble offers an elevated version specifically engineered for slab track projects using Iron-Horse installation systems.

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

GEDO Rec is Trimble’s software application for track recording and survey tasks, designed to work with GEDO measurement trolleys for railway track geometry measurements.

GEDO Rec runs on Windows operating systems and is typically installed on rugged tablets or laptops suitable for field use.

GEDO Rec can record track geometry parameters including gauge, cant (superelevation), chainage, alignment, and height measurements. It can also integrate with total stations for absolute position measurements.

Data can be exported in standard formats compatible with common track design software and databases. This includes ASCII formats and specific railway industry formats.

The system typically requires:

  • Connection verification with the trolley
  • Project parameters setup
  • Track gauge settings confirmation
  • Initial position or chainage input
  • Sensor calibration checks

The software provides real-time visualisation of measurements and alerts operators to any values outside specified tolerances during the measurement process.

Yes, measurements can be recorded in both forward and backward directions along the track, with the software automatically adjusting calculations based on direction of travel.

The software includes data recovery features and automatic backup functionality to prevent data loss during unexpected disconnections.

GEDO Rec allows users to mark and record special points such as switches, crossings, and other track features during the measurement process with specific coding.

Users typically need basic training in:

    Software operation
  • Project setup
  • Measurement procedures
  • Data export and handling
  • Basic troubleshooting
