When you need to capture detailed data, nothing beats scanned data for its ability to document the complete 3D scene on site. 3D scans provide you with datasets that are dimensional, measurable and shareable to eliminate any guesswork or interpretation back at the office. The DPI-8 Handheld 3D Scanner allows you to easily and accurately capture this data.
The DPI-8 gives the operator the flexibility to walk around the room viewing captured data as they scan or “paint” the scene. Once captured the 3D model is available on the tablet screen, with the ability to rotate the model and view the rectified scan. It has a self-contained, lightweight design, incorporating a 3D depth sensor and a commercial-grade Android tablet that allows one-hand operation for ease, speed and safety. It is powered by DotProduct’s Phi.3D software, which provides operators with data-quality feedback while scanning and makes it simple for new users to produce accurate point clouds directly in the field. Advanced compression technology makes it easy to pack and share point cloud data with key stakeholders offsite.
Rob Ferguson, SA/NT Sales Manager for UPG, (pictured here with the scanner) got to trial the DPI-8 scanner back in June and had this to say.
“Whilst we have only had a limited time with the DPI-8 we see this as an excellent l tool for those in crime scene investigation and motor vehicle damage analysis. The ease of use as a handheld scanning device will be attractive as a time saver, compared to traditional fixed tripod scanners with multiple setups to capture a scene.
When capturing a scene, for example a damaged vehicle, the operator has live feedback as to the quality and completeness of capture, ensuring the job does not require future rework. Data captured from the DPI-8 can be transferred to Trimble Real Works V9.0 for further enhancement and export for a variety of end users.
Depending upon user requirements the DPI-8 scan can be a ‘stand alone’ capture or georeferenced by capturing coordinated points during the mobile scan. The on board function then allows the operator to rectify the scan onto the nominated control points.”
The DPI-8 Handheld Scanner lowers the barriers to scanning to unlock powerful as-built data deliverables your team can trust.
